Fishery and aquaculture are one of the three major economic pillars of Prince Edward Island, among which tuna, lobster, and oysters are the most famous seafood. North Lake in PEI is also known as the Tuna Capital of the World. In pre-pandemic years, the International Tuna Cup Challenge was held every September. By using a catch and release method, anglers from all over the world compete to fish for the largest tuna. Instead of tuna fishing which requires technical skills, tourists can join the deep-sea fishing for the Atlantic mackerel and cod, or lobster fishing, so that ones would acquire knowledge and first-hand experience on where the seafood comes from and discuss about sustainable fishing issue such as the endangered bluefin tuna, arousing their awareness on the need of marine conservation.
