Canada is located in the temperate and polar regions, and half of the land is covered by forests. The temperate forest is mainly composed of coniferous trees such as pine and fir trees, and yet there are also mixed forest with deciduous trees such as maples. Conducting ecological surveys in the temperate forests of Prince Edward Island not only enables participants to become familiar with ecological survey techniques, but also enables ones to understand the characteristics of temperate forests. The analysis of the field data can also allow students to understand the impact of global climate change on the eastern region of Canada.
